Walknote.eu.org - Apple Vision Pro, the augmented reality (AR) glasses, is reported to have sold a whopping 200,000 units, despite its hefty price tag of Rp 55 million per unit.
The sales figure of Apple Vision Pro was revealed by MacRumors. The company began accepting pre-orders for the AR glasses on January 19, 2024.
Last Monday, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple had sold around 160,000 to 180,000 units of Vision Pro.
These figures were recorded during the weekend of pre-orders for Apple Vision Pro, as cited by MacRumors on Tuesday (January 30, 2024).
Such was the high demand that the option for home delivery of the Vision Pro headset during its launch was sold out within a few hours of the pre-order session opening.
After the option for home delivery was no longer available, the choice for direct pick-up of Apple Vision Pro at stores was also unavailable.
Kuo mentioned that the demand for Vision Pro could diminish rapidly due to the niche market for the device.
It's no wonder, as the price of Apple Vision Pro at USD 3,500 puts the AR headset out of reach for many consumers.
Apple is estimated to produce around half a million units of Vision Pro headsets, but whether Apple will sell that many remains to be seen.
On the flip side, not all popular streaming services can be enjoyed on Apple Vision Pro upon its release.
Several popular apps, such as Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube, are said to be unavailable on Apple's AR glasses.
Spotify Confirms Unavailability on Apple Vision Pro
"Users can still use or access YouTube via Safari on Apple Vision Pro," said Jessica Gibby, a spokesperson for YouTube, as reported by The Verge on Monday (January 29, 2024).
Not only YouTube, but Spotify also has no plans to create a dedicated app for Vision Pro.
Spotify spokesperson Gary Munford said, "we cannot confirm these reports yet and there are no plans for app development on Apple Vision Pro."
Google also took a similar step with Spotify and Netflix, where they have no plans to create new apps for Apple Vision Pro.
According to MacStories' findings, out of the 46 most popular apps on the App Store, none directly support visionOS upon its release.
This list is subject to change at any time—and some apps still offer Vision Pro support through apps on the iPhone and iPad.
However, the lack of native apps weeks after the release of Vision Pro is not very reassuring for buyers of these augmented reality glasses.
Hundreds of 3D Movies and Streaming Services Upon Release
On the other hand, Apple mentioned that entertainment content such as 3D movies will be available on Apple Vision Pro starting Friday, February 2, 2024.
In its statement, Apple mentioned there will be "more pixels than a 4K TV for each eye, combined with advanced Spatial Audio."
"Apple Vision Pro is the ultimate entertainment device," said Greg Joswiak, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Apple, quoted from their official website on Friday (January 19, 2024).
"It's unlike anything users have ever seen before, and we can't wait for them to experience it themselves," Joswiak said.
Disney Plus Also Comes to Apple Vision Pro
Not only Apple TV Plus, one of the streaming platforms to be brought to Vision Pro is Disney Plus.
"Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary platform that will bring our fans closer to the characters and stories they love while immersing them deeper into all that Disney has to offer," said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
Additionally, there will also be streaming services such as ESPN, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, Max, Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Fubo, Crunchyroll, Red Bull TV, IMAX, TikTok, and MUBI. However, Netflix is still absent from this list.
Not only these services, users of Apple Vision Pro will also be able to watch streaming videos through Safari and other browsers. (_wp)
